Jennifer Targosz, M.S., RMHCI

Hi. My name is Jennifer Targosz. I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (RMHCI).  I started my journey working with substance abuse at an inpatient facility while obtaining my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Over the last two years, I worked closely with clients suffering from not only substance use disorders but also co-occurring disorders such as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma, Bipolar Disorder, as well as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Through individual and group therapy, I was able to work with clients suffering from symptoms of mental health to find positive ways to cope and help clients bring forth their own personal strengths and let them shine. While my primary experience has been working with those in substance use, I am passionate about working with LGBTQ+ adolescents and adults. Originally from Chicago, I moved to Florida in 2014 to complete my Bachelor’s in Psychology at the University of South Florida. Upon completion of my undergrad, I spent time volunteering at the 211 Crisis Center of Tampa assisting with their suicide and crisis hotline. As a young teen, I knew I

always had a passion for helping others and just giving them time and space to listen. To know they are not alone regardless of what they are going through. This has helped me further my learning and pursue and graduate with my Master’s In Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Bellevue University.

My main therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) but will incorporate other appropriate therapeutic approaches to meet the needs of the client. One of the main components of CBT is helping identify negative thinking patterns and behaviors that have held you back, so you can replace them with better methods. Using CBT and other strength-based approaches, we can find your personal strengths and confidence. I believe that as the counselor it is my job to meet each client where they are and that there is extreme value in making the client feel seen and heard. I want each client to have a unique experience in counseling and I believe we can work together as a team to make that happen. Not everyone is the same and their therapeutic journey should reflect that. I am here to assist and challenge you to be your best self and complete your goals.
