Katie Darrow MSW, RCSWI

Hello and welcome! I’m Katherine Darrow (Katie), a therapist with over 20 years of experience in the mental health field supporting children, individuals, and families as they navigate life’s challenges and work toward healing and personal growth. While my current title reflects Florida’s licensing requirements after relocating from New York, I bring two decades of clinical experience working as a therapist and supporting clients through meaningful and lasting change.

Originally from Buffalo, New York, I spent most of my life there before relocating to Florida five years ago with my husband and our dachshund–chihuahua mix. When I’m not working with clients, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, relaxing by the pool, exploring local restaurants, attending tribute band concerts, or curling up with a good book or Netflix series.

Education, Experience, and Lifelong Learning

I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Buffalo State College and my Master’s degree in Social Work from the University at Buffalo School of Social Work. My education has always been a lifelong journey, and I continue to seek out training, research, and new therapeutic techniques to better support the clients I serve.

Prior to relocating to Florida, I spent over 20 years working as a therapist in New York, supporting individuals and families across the lifespan—from young children to older adults. Because each state has its own licensing requirements, I am currently practicing as a Registered Clinical Social Work Intern while completing Florida’s state licensure process, allowing me to continue providing care while transitioning my professional credentials.

Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of mental health concerns, including:

  • Developmental disabilities

  • Domestic violence

  • Substance use disorders

  • Trauma and its long-term effects

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Bipolar disorder

  • ADHD

  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)

  • Conduct disorder

  • Behavioral and emotional challenges in children

  • Self-harm tendencies

Much of my work has focused on children and their families. I strongly believe that therapy for children is most successful when families and schools are involved in the process. When caregivers, therapists, and educators work together, children are better supported in developing the emotional and behavioral skills they need to succeed.

Supporting Children and Families Through Trauma

One of my greatest passions is working with children who have experienced trauma. I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), an evidence-based treatment designed to help children process and heal from traumatic experiences.

Trauma can significantly impact how children think, feel, and interact with the world around them. My goal is to help children reduce the emotional intensity associated with their experiences while developing coping skills, resilience, and confidence. By addressing trauma early, we can help children build a stronger emotional foundation for their future.

My Therapeutic Approach

My primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Through this collaborative process, we will work together to:

  • Identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns

  • Develop emotional regulation strategies

  • Build healthier coping skills

  • Strengthen problem-solving and resilience

CBT helps individuals understand how their thoughts influence their emotions and behaviors. By increasing awareness of these patterns, clients can begin making healthier choices and responding to life’s challenges in more effective ways.

What Drives Me: Empowering You to Live Your Best Life

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is witnessing clients begin to see themselves differently—developing confidence, gaining new perspectives, and rediscovering hope for their future. Therapy is a journey of self-discovery, healing, and growth, and I feel honored to walk alongside clients during that process.

Whether you or your child are navigating emotional challenges, trauma, behavioral concerns, or life transitions, my goal is to create a safe and supportive space where healing and growth can occur.

Your journey toward healing can begin today, and I would be honored to be part of it.
