Michael Kyser, MA, LMHC, CCTP-II
Alongside being an LMHC, I am an Accelerated Resolution (ART) Therapist. I am also certified in complex trauma (Certified Counseling Complex Trauma Professional, CCTP II) & an EDIT™ Certified I - Eating Disorder Treatment Clinician. If you would like more information on ART & EDIT™ main principles techniques, please check out our therapy services above.
I first started my career off with working in the substance abuse (AODA) population. I've worked in outpatient, inpatient, and intensive outpatient AODA for 6 years. Over the past 6 years, I have worked with many clients that suffer from not only AODA related issues, but also co-occurring mental health. I have worked closely with clients diagnosed with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) & complex trauma, Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Major Depressive disorder (MDD), eating disorders (ED), and Gender Dysphoria. My passion is working with clients that are experiencing symptoms from these diagnoses through the use of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have also spent most of my career working with the LGBTQ+ population. I can help with sexual related issues, issues with family & friends due to sexuality / coming out, and gender dysphoria. I have worked with trans clients who are questioning their sexuality, who have admitted to themselves/family/and/or friends that they are trans, who have started transitioning, or who have transitioned completely. I spent 2 years facilitating a trans masc support group with the help of highly trained therapists. I can provide clients with the necessary and safe resources to aid in the process of sexuality & coming out.
My main therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful thought processes and negative behaviors, improving regulating emotions, and the development of personal coping skills that targets around the current issue(s). As a client, you will become more aware of the negative and often unrealistic thoughts that change your feelings and moods. The goal is for you to be able to start engaging in healthier thinking patterns and behaviors to live more functionally.
I look at each client as an individual (no client is the same). No matter what you may come into therapy for and no matter similarities between past and current clients, I meet you where you are at. Every journey starts at various different places. With that being said, your therapy journey will be individualized. We will work together to define and, at some instances, alter your treatment plan to make sure that you are receiving the best help and are making healthier choices.
I enjoy being able to see the process of my clients journey in becoming a healthier version of themselves. I provide a healthy & safe environment for clients to allow them to feel welcomed and relaxed. This therapeutic alliance & environment will allow clients to feel more comfortable when making positive changes in their life.
